Key Provisions of the Agreement
On August 23, Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev signed a pension cooperation agreement in Tashkent. The agreement streamlines pension eligibility for citizens who have worked in both countries.
Combining Work Experience
Under the pact, periods of employment that are insufficient on their own in one country can be combined with periods worked in the other country. Each state will independently calculate and pay its share of pension benefits based on the work experience earned within its borders.
Continuity of Pension Payments
If a pensioner moves to another country, pension payments will not be reduced, suspended or terminated solely because the recipient lives in the other country or a third state.
Simplified Administration
Applications for award, recalculation or payment of a pension may be submitted to the relevant institution in either country. In cases covered by the agreement, such an application will be considered as having been submitted in the other country as well. Pension authorities will exchange necessary documents and information directly.
Implementation and Future Steps
The agreement will enter into force after the completion of the necessary domestic procedures. The countries will establish the practical arrangements for implementing the agreement through a separate administrative agreement.
