The Uzbekistan national team suffered a 2-0 defeat to South Korea in an international friendly on Tuesday, October 6th. Hosted at the Yongin Mireu Stadium, the match saw the home side secure victory through goals from Son Heung-Min in the 6th minute and Oh Se-Hun in the 60th.
Head coach Fabio Cannavaro had aimed to test a reshuffled lineup following consecutive wins over Iran and Syria. However, an early defensive lapse allowed Son Heung-Min to open the scoring. Uzbekistan showed attacking intent for large periods, registering 12 shots in total, but only four were on target.
The Decisive Moment
Uzbekistan pressed again in the second half, but Oh Se-Hun doubled South Korea's lead on the hour mark, assisted by Song Min-Kyu. This goal effectively sealed the match's outcome. Cannavaro made a total of seven substitutions during the game, including bringing on fresh legs for Sherzod Nasrullaev and Odiljon Hamrobekov in the 69th minute.
The only yellow card for Uzbekistan was shown to Sherzod Esanov in the 47th minute. Match statistics showed Uzbekistan edged possession with 53%, but it failed to translate into a result.
Speaking after the match, Cannavaro said: “We played well for large parts of the game, but we were punished for two lapses.” Uzbekistan's next official fixture, a home match against Jordan, is listed on our fixtures schedule.
