The Uzbekistan Football Association (UFA) has expressed its full support for FIFA President Gianni Infantino and its intention to continue close cooperation with the organisation. The declaration came during Infantino's official visit to Uzbekistan on 29-30 September.
The FIFA President was welcomed by Adham Ikramov, the Acting Minister of Sports of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and Ravshan Irmatov, First Vice-President of the Uzbekistan Football Association. During the visit, Infantino reviewed ongoing football infrastructure projects in Tashkent, including the construction of a new stadium in Yangi Tashkent. He was briefed on the stadium's progress, its infrastructure, and the conditions for hosting the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Uzbekistan.
Infantino also met with the Uzbekistan national team to discuss the current state and future development of Uzbek football, as well as the team's participation in international competitions. In a meeting with the UFA president, cooperation with FIFA, the development of football infrastructure, support for youth football, and the international promotion of Uzbek football were discussed. The FIFA President attended the opening of a new football field at Secondary School No. 90 in Tashkent, a project aimed at developing mass sports among young people and creating modern conditions for football training.
In an official statement, the UFA said: "The Uzbekistan Football Association (UFA) has expressed full support for FIFA President Gianni Infantino and its intention to continue close cooperation with the organisation." The main directions of the visit included the further development of football infrastructure, supporting young talents, training coaches and football specialists, further popularising football, and expanding international cooperation with FIFA.
This cooperation follows the national team's historic qualification for the 2026 World Cup finals. The side's recent five-match form (WWLLL) and upcoming fixtures provide important context for the team's future development. During the visit, an agreement was reached to open a FIFA regional office for Central Asian countries in Tashkent.
